  1. guernica piece of historical art drawn by Pablo Picasso. He was showing the war that happened in Spain in atown called Guernica. It showed the massacre of people in that place for no reason.

In this painting it showed suffering of women, children and animals from the bombing by the Germans. It was bombed for no reason but just hating that it was a religious town.

guernica was illustrating war but this was not a real war because the regime of Hitler were bombing the people just for the fun of it. this also shows that Hitler hated religous people and he wished to see them suffer for his pleasure, that is why the town burned for 3 days as he kept on bombing.

how true is it to say some people enjoy war?

  2. His painting is without question the most important anti-war work of art produced in the Twentieth Century.

'It is poignant that this symbol served as the backdrop to many of the public statements by diplomats engaged in the Security Council debate during the winter of 2003 over the use of military force in Iraq. On January 27'
this is a quote i picked out from the passage. im not entirely sure what it means but i think that it means that this painted represents all figures in war the way it involves a number of things init.

  3. I dont see how a person could not love this image, on first glance it looks like production of someone really young, but when looking closely it is amazing! there are so many hidden message within the piece, i think although it has been critically analysed there are probably more meanings to this picture than imagined or found. Being from 1937 i think that this is genius, I dont think that it is true or fair to say that art from that era is greater than it is now! Being for the Spanish Pavilion of the World's Fair in Paris i think it could be taken/saw in two ways, either brutal or beautiful! However it is true to that time and i believe it deserves its place in history and our serious attention!

  4. Picasso created this huge painting in just over three weeks in 1937 which represents the bombing of the little town of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War. Thousands of innocent people were injured and killed.
In its sharp lines, its confusion and its distorted shapes, Guernica shows the suffering and pain of war. Picasso has used only black and white paint as which i think symbolises death, mourning and tragedy. He believed that brighter colours might distract the viewer from the agony of the scene. In Guernica, all of the figures have open mouths. You can almost hear them shouting or groaning or screaming. Each face has two staring eves regardless of whether they’re in profile or facing the viewer.
There are many jagged lines and sharp angles. He has repeated shapes for example the eye and the sun and patterns to make them stick in the viewers head leaving a visual image. I think all of these techniques help to focus the viewer’s eyes on what is really happening in the painting.

  5. Picasso's painting is without question the most important anti-war work of art produced in the Twentieth Century. It is a testament to the horrors of Fascism. The authority of this image is reflected in the hanging of a tapestry reproduction of Picasso's painting outside the Security Council of the United Nations, an institution which emerged after the defeat of Fascism. It is poignant that this symbol served as the backdrop to many of the public statements by diplomats engaged in the Security Council debate during the winter of 2003 over the use of military force in Iraq.

personally I think this peice of art is truley amazing, I think that picasso has a great way of turning a serious subject into a beautiful peice of art, he managers to get the point of war and suffering across in such a strong way.

  7. To be honest when we first started talking about Guernice i had no clue on what it looked like or what even what it was. Untill i opened the link and realised that i had seen this picture many years ago. I believe that you could truely say that this is a master peice.

"What do you think an artist is?" I noticed this question underneith the image of Guernica and to be honest i think it's someone who can define an event in time in a single image.

  8. Probably Picasso's most famous work, Guernica is certainly his most powerful political statement, painted as an immediate reaction to the Nazi's devastating casual bombing practice on the Basque town of Guernica during Spanish Civil War.

Guernica shows the tragedies of war and the suffering it inflicts upon individuals, particularly innocent civilians. This work has gained a monumental status, becoming a perpetual reminder of the tragedies of war, an anti-war symbol, and an embodiment of peace.

I strongly agree with Andrew's comment about an artist because Picasso expressed the the happenings of that time into his work.

  9. i have met a lot of people who seem to think being an artist is simply creating pretty pictures and requires massive levels of talent. this piece of work by picasso is one of the prime examples of how wrong these beliefs are, although it is not exactly beautiful and doesnt show picasso high level of talent, it is still a awe-inspiring piece of art that makes people stop and think about just how terrible war can be, i hope we come across more piecies of art like this that are more than pretty pictures but vehicles of change.

  10. Guernica is a striking image, on first glances, it looks great as a piece of art
But looking closer, I could see suffering on alot of the faces (Weather it's on purpose, or just because of Picasso's cubism style)
I think through just analysising the image you can see the representation of the war

  11. Guernica is famous painting by Picasso purposed to illustrate the inhumane use of technology and the shocking horrors of war.

I agree with Sean that the best paintings are not the paintings with beatiful, attractive colours but are the paintings that are works of true inspiration and are painted with a desire to touch its viewer.

There is no doubt that who ever sees guernica should be able to percieve the true message behind it - Picasso wanted us to see the suffering and pain which war brings with it.

  12. The painting is based on the events of April 27, 1937, when the German airforce, in support of the Fascist forces led by Generalissimo Francisco Franco, carried out a bombing raid on the Basque village of Guernica in northern Spain

i agree with sammy that the picture show the suffering of women, children and animals from the bombing by the Germans. It was bombed for no reason but just hating that it was a religious town.

The bombing of Guernica was a sensation in the world press, and picasso used it to show the harted of the men against religion and the heartless personality towards their oppent

to what extent do we are that people to into war for fun and pleasure
